On April 12, Governor Cuomo signed into law the 2019 New York State Budget, updating the State’s sexual harassment laws. Under those laws, by October 9, 2019 all New York employers (regardless of size) must provide all employees who work or will work in New York with sexual harassment prevention training that meets or exceeds the State’s requirements. In addition, all new hires must be trained “as soon as possible” after hire.

Effective April 1, 2019, all New York City employers with 15 or more employees (including independent contractors) are required to provide annual sexual harassment prevention training to employees, interns, and independent contractors who provide services for more than 80 hours in a calendar year and for at least 90 days.

Harter Secrest & Emery LLP is providing quarterly online webinars to help employers comply with the State’s sexual harassment prevention training requirements. Employees can participate online without ever leaving the workplace.
