Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a full-service business law firm with offices throughout New York, announced that Lucrecia Z. Knapp, senior associate in the firm’s Immigration practice, has been elected to serve as Chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Upstate New York Chapter.
AILA is the national association of immigration lawyers established to promote justice, advocate for fair and reasonable immigration law and policy, advance the quality of immigration and nationality law and practice, and enhance the professional development of its members. As of 2017, there are over 15,000 AILA members spread over 39 chapters in the United States and across the world.
In her role, Knapp is the chief presiding officer of the Chapter, directing the activities and general conduct of Chapter affairs, and representing the Chapter on the AILA Board of Governors. Serving on the Board of Governors is a prestigious accomplishment as the Board determines the policies, provides financial oversight, and sets annual goals and monitors accomplishments of AILA at the national level.
As an attorney in the firm’s Immigration practice, Knapp represents companies, universities, and medical institutions on all aspects of complex and ever-changing employment-based and family-based immigration and I-9 compliance. She assists students, medical professionals, executives, athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, persons of extraordinary ability, and immigrant investors in a wide range of immigration matters. In addition to her role on AILA, she contributes to the community through her work as a member of the Board of Directors of Lollypop Farm, Humane Society of Greater Rochester and as a pro bono attorney for the Monroe County Volunteer Legal Services Project. Knapp graduated from Queens College and Brooklyn Law School.
